How is men’s skin different to women’s? | Male Skincare Haywards Heath

Male skincare is VERY different to female skin, not only does it have thicker facial hair, but also male skin is about 25% thicker than female skin due to higher testosterone levels. This is why we have specific treatments and products designed for MALE skin.

Men also have higher oil levels then women which is why their skin is less prone to dehydration. However, this does mean that it is more prone to breakouts and congestion…

The only other major difference is the collagen levels in men to women. Men have a higher collagen density than women – not fair right!? It has been said that female skin is about 15 years older than male skin just based on collagen density. However, ageing is directly linked to sun exposure and as men tend to wear less SPF than women and use less anti-ageing products, the difference is not as noticeable.

Does men’s skin age differently? The simple answer is…YES. Men have naturally higher collagen density than women, meaning that they stay younger for younger…not fair right?!

Regardless of age, male skin is 15 YEARS YOUNGER than female skin, just based on collagen levels alone. However, men tend to be less skincare savvy than women, not using anti-ageing products and having regular treatments, which closes the gap.

Also, men tend to also be less frequent users of sunscreen or SPF. Sun damage contributes towards most of the ageing seen on the skin, so this also considerably closes the gap.

So if men started using anti-ageing products for prevention as well as correction and also wear regular SPF then they really can give female skin a run for its money!
